Khaleque for more spl trains to State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 31 - Congress MP Abdul Khaleque has called upon the Railway Ministry to reserve a portion of berths in the New Delhi-Dibrugarh special passenger trains for people from Assam.

The MP from the Barpeta constituency has written to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in this regard and also sought more special trains from other states to Assam to facilitate transport of stranded people.

Because of the lockdown, thousands of people from different states have been stranded in many places across the country. I appreciate the effort made by Indian railways to run special trains from New Delhi to various locations to facilitate movement of stranded people. Moreover, thousands of people from Assam and particularly people from Barpeta constituency, too, are making efforts to return to their hometowns. But, since the trains from New Delhi to Dibrugarh pass through many states and serve the northeastern states, I appeal to you to reserve at least 400 seats in the trains exclusively for people from Assam, Khaleque stated.

I would request you to make arrangement to run special trains from these states to Assam so that the stranded people can get back to their homes, Khaleque wrote.
