Khagen Mahanta�s death condoled

GUWAHATI, June 13 � Expressing deep sorrow at the demise of Bihu Samrat Khagen Mahanta, the Asam Sahitya Sabha said that the people of Assam would always remember him for his immortal songs. Sabha president Imran Shah and general secretary Prahlad Chandra Tasa, in their condolence message said that he was a well wisher of the Sabha and his death was a great loss to the State.

Others, including the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Ltd, cultural activist Ratna Ojah, Assam Public Service Commission, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, North East Centre and Satriya Kendra, the All Assam Lawyers� Assocation, the Gauhati High Court Advocates Association, the Bar Council of Assam and Nagaland, the Lawyers� Association, Guwahati, AGP president Prafulla Mahanta, Asam Yuva Parishad, SBI Dispur branch, State Information and Public Relations department, All Assam Students Union, Nari Mukti Sangram Samity, North East Students Organisation, the Students Federation of India, Royal Group of Institutions, Kerala Association, Guwahati and Cine ASA, among others also condoled the death of Khagen Mahanta by holding meetings and conveyed their heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members.

Meanwhile, the AASU flag is being kept half mast in the State for three days as a mark of respect to the icon.
