AIZAWL, Oct 26 - Kerala State BJP president PS Sreedharan Pillai has been appointed as the new Mizoram Governor. The President of India, in a communique on Friday, announced the appointment of Pillai as the Governor of the North Eastern state.

After the resignation of former Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Thiruvananthapuram, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has been holding the additional charge as the Mizoram Governor.

Meanwhile, Pillai is understood to have told reporters at Kozhikode that he was happy to accept the Union Governments offer and expressed the hope that he would perform well as a Governor. I knew that the party wanted to use my service outside Kerala. The Prime Minister himself had hinted to me a few months about it. I was asked whether I was ready to offer my service outside Kerala, Pillai was quoted as saying.

Mizoram is a place which has similar geographical conditions as Kerala. I was not getting much time for reading and writing. I think now I may get a chance, he added.

Pillai is the third person from the South Indian State to be appointed as the Mizoram Governor after Vakkom Purushothaman (2011-2014) and Rajashekharan who held the charge from May 29, 2018 to March 8, 2019.
