Kerala Association distributes flood relief

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 - The Kerala Association, Guwahati on Saturday distributed food items among the flood-affected people of Rajapara, Thakuriapara and Baruapara villages under Majirgaon revenue circle in West Guwahati constituency, a press release said.

The programme was inaugurated at 11.30 am where ex-minister and MLA of West Guwahati constiuency, Ramendra Narayan Kalita was present. The MLA handed over some packets of food items which included rice, dal, potatoes, chira and cooking oil, which was followed by the Kerala Association members also handed over the packets.

The Kerala Association was represented by its vice-president, KDD Panicker, general secretary, Sam George, treasurer TP Philip, adviser Mohanan Pillai and members PC Philip, TD Rajan, Biji Varghese and Leslin Philip.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA spoke about the Kerala Association, Guwahati and his relationship with the Keralites residing in Guwahati. He praised the Kerala Association for its initiative in taking such steps for providing food items to the affected people of the locality.

The Kerala Association vice-president KDD Panicker also spoke a few words about the activities of the Association and about arranging the food items.

Central secretary of AGP, Subhash Sarma recollected the Kerala Association�s earlier activity � distributing umbrellas to the schoolchildren of the school in the same locality.

In the distribution process Paresh Barua, district secretary of AGP, Jagannath Thakuria, president of Kahikuchi panchayat and panchayat area member Usha Kalita were also present.

More than 1,500 people gathered and among them the most affected and distressed got the food kits and all of them praised the Kerala Association for its efforts, the release added.
