IMPHAL, Aug 24 - Former Manipur Chief Minister Rishang Keishing was laid to rest at Mantripukhuri here with full State honours. He was buried next to the memorial of Yaruingam, his eldest son.
Prior to the burial ceremony, a funeral procession was taken out where Chief Minister N Biren Singh, along with hundreds of people took part.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Ministers, MLAs, top civil and police officials joined the procession to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
An Indian Reserve Battalion contingent performed guard of honour and offered gun salute and immediately after that a two-minute silence was observed.
Later talking to reporters at the burial ground, the Chief Minister said he would try to follow the footsteps of the veteran politician so that Manipur can be kept on the growth trajectory. Recalling Rishang�s positive remarks on his Government, the Chief Minister said he would never forget his last words and valuable advice for the State.
Earlier, the mortal remains of Keishing was brought to Congress Bhavan where Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president TN Haokip and former Chief Minister and Opposition leader O Ibobi Singh paid last tributes to the veteran leader, followed by a brief condolence meeting at Adimjati Ashram located near MBC Church. The senior politician died at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences hospital on Tuesday following multiple-organ failure.
