Kaziranga areas being encroached

By Correspondent

KAZIRANGA, June 9 - Concern has been voiced over the ulterior motive of some doubtful citizens who have encroached upon a portion under Baneswar forest camp under Burapahar range of Kaziranga National Park.

Sources said that these illegal migrants had been able to occupy a portion of areas falling under Kaziranga National Park with the active support of few anti-social elements and some government officials.

Encroachers had already made their houses inside the park area of Kaziranga and even installed power fencing to protect their paddy crops from wild animals which was being grown in national park area. Sources also said that some illegal migrants had already encroached upon a portion of aforested area covered with Sagoon trees.

When this correspondent pointed out this issue, Kaziranga DFO claimed that the area belonged to revenue area surrounded by Kaziranga National Park area. But another source claimed that there was no any revenue village inside the park area. Normally during floods, these doubtful citizens move to other places. But sources said that allowing such people to remain and live inside the park area would put the life of wild animals, especially rhinos into risky and violate the clauses under Wildlife Protection Act (India).
