GUWAHATI, Oct 12 - Kaziranga National Park has received a goodwill gesture of support from the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, with the airlines carrying the name of the celebrated park in one of its major flight services operating between Amsterdam and New York.
The name �Kaziranga National Park� has been embossed upon its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft as part of the KLM authority�s long-time campaign to spread awareness about various major issues.
Its Boeing 777 aircraft have been named after different UNESCO World Heritage Sites, an initiative welcomed by environment and wildlife conservation activists worldwide. Conservationists have expressed hopes that the KLM flight named after Kaziranga on a major route will help raise global awareness about conservation efforts in the acclaimed rhino-land.
Founded in 1919, KLM is the flag carrier airline of the Netherlands and one of the oldest airlines in Europe, operating passenger and cargo services to nearly 130 destinations. It has long been a part of the airline�s tradition to give unique identity to its aircraft by naming these after major cities and city squares, rare species of birds and flowers, world heritage sites and ships of the Dutch East India Company. The names figure near the nose section of all large, long-haul KLM aircraft.
