Katlicherra subdiv inaugurated

HAILAKANDI, March 4 - The Commissioner of Hills and Barak Valley Division, Dr Anwar Uddin Choudhury formally inaugurated the newly-notified Katlicherra subdivision of Hailakandi district recently.

The function held on the occasion at Katlicherra was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Malay Bora. It can be mentioned here that Katlicherra is the first subdivision of Hailakandi district having three full-fledged police stations within its area of 862 square kilometers. The population of the Mizoram bordering Katlicherra is 2,63,142. Of them, 28,700 are scheduled tribes. The Circle Officer of Katlicherra was given the charge of first SDO (Civil).

In his address, Dr Choudhury congratulated the people of Katlicherra for getting the status of subdivision and hoped that most of the works will be accomplished in Katlicherra reducing extra expenses and time for the people. At the outset of the meeting, the purpose was briefly explained by the District Development Commissioner of Hailakandi, Barenya Das. The meeting was also addressed by the Superintendent of Police, Rajen Singh, president of the Katlicherra Subdivision Demand Committee, Sushil Chandra Deb, president of the district Congress Committee, Ashok Duttagupta, Principal of SK Roy College, Dipak Kanti Aich, Ataur Rahman Laskar, Premraj Goala, James Aind among others.

In his presidential address, Deputy Commissioner Malay Bora expressed satisfaction over the declaration of Katlicherra as a subdivision and hoped that developmental activities in this southernmost area bordering Mizoram will now get intensified.

The meeting was anchored by Nurul Hussain Mazumdar. The vote of thanks was offered by the Additional Deputy Commissioner FR Laskar.
