Kati Bihu celebrated at Jagiroad

JAGIROAD, Oct 17 - Kati Bihu, the pre-harvest festival was celebrated today in and around Jagiroad, including rural areas under Mayong circle.

People lit earthen lamps in the paddy fields and prayed for a good harvest in the coming season. People also lit earthen lamps in their households and before the holy tulasi plant.

The lighting of earthen lamps in the paddy fields help to lure insects/pests, and thereby control them as they perish in the flames.

In the town area also, earthen lamps were lit by the people in their residences and before the tulasi plants.

Eye camp: Lions Club of Jagiroad and Lions Club of Guwahati Anmol in association with the Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya of Beltola, Guwahati organised a free eye check-up and cataract detection camp at the Lions Club at Nizarapar here yesterday.

A six-member group from Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya led by Dr Samir Tiosia checked and examined a total of 225 patients and 68 were screened for cataract operation, which will be done free of cost at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya on November 3, 5 and 8 next.

Atanu Prasad Borah thanked all the members of the Lions Club of Jagiroad and Lions Club of Guwahati Anmol, including the doctors from Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya for their kind cooperation in the eye camp.
