GUWAHATI, March 13 - Drama enthusiasts of Guwahati enjoyed the staging of Doddata, a folk theatre form of Karnataka today, the third day of the ongoing 8th Theatre Olympics at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here.
The play titled Dakha Brahman Vadhe is the story of Daksh Brahma, King of Dakshavati and a descendant of Lord Brahma.
Farmers in Karnataka perform Doddata in the farms and villages. Filled with joy, men and women sing and perform along with the music played on their instruments. Moodal Pass (Bayalata) Doddata is also known as Moodalpaya Doddata in Dhakad, Gadag, Bhelganth and Bijapur districts, Moodalpaya Attdata in Bidar and Gulbarga districts, Moodalpaya Hiteatta in Raichur and Bellary districts, Moodalpaya Yakshagana in Mysore, Mandya and Shivamoga districts.
Guwahati is one of the co-hosts for the 8th Theatre Olympics which is being held for the first time in India.
The Guwahati chapter of Theatre Olympics 2018, is being organised by the National School of Drama (NSD) under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Government of Tripura. The Guwahati edition of the festival will end on March 25, while the festival will culminate on April 8 in Mumbai.
