By ANN SERVICE

NILAMBAZAR, Oct 1 - Brisk preparations are on at the border town of Karimganj and other parts of the district for the Durga Puja from October 5 to 8.

Office-bearers of over 200 puja committees of Karimganj town and its adjoining areas are working hard to make the celebrations a grand success. Activities relating to formation of puja committees and preparations of budgets are already over.

Works like pandal construction, illumination and fund-raising are now going on in full swing. Different dhaki teams from West Bengal and Tripura and Baul artistes from Bangladesh have already reached Karimganj and other parts of the district for the grand festival.

The puja markets in Karimganj, Badarpur, Ramkrishnanagar, Patherkandi, Nilambazar and others are being flooded with people. A tremendous rush of customers is being witnessed in markets all over the district despite high prices of all items.

This year more than 200 puja pandals are being set up at Karimganj and adjoining places.

Some puja committees here like Kushiyarkul Puja Committee, Aparajita Club, Shahartli Puja Mandala, Young Star, Agragami, Bagbari Sarbajanin Puja Committee, Badarpur Jangla Kalibari Puja Committee, Badarpur Railway Traffic Colony Puja Committee, Badarpur Railway GRP Colony Sarbajanin Puja Committee and Badarpur ST Road Durga Puja Committee, etc., are arranging special programmes.

It may be mentioned here that, among all the pujas of Badarpur, one puja will be celebrated entirely by women, at Badarpur Ghat.

Police sources said a red alert has been issued in the border areas for avoiding any anti-national and unlawful activities during the puja celebrations.
