BADARPUR, Feb 5 The Karimganj district and police administrations have made all necessary arrangements for holding civic polls at Karimganj and Badarpur peacefully. Security measures have also been tightened in both the places, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the electioneering has reached crescendo in both the towns with party candidates along with leaders and workers campaigning door to door of voters. The Congress and the BJP as well as the independent candidates have also been arranging election meetings at select points even as the towns have been flooded with posters and banners seeking votes.

There are a total of 13,006 voters in the Badarpur Town Committee where elections will be held for its four wards. A total of 17 polling stations have been set up for the elections at Badarpur, official sources said, adding, there are 16 candidates in the fray for these seats.

On the other hand, under the Karimganj Municpal Board (KMB) there are all total 45,381 voters who will decide the fate of candidates in 27 wards.

From the poll picture, it is clear that the main contest will be between the Congress and the BJP, though independents may spring a surprise in some seats.

Meanwhile, in an urgent meeting with the election observer MK Deka, Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Sanjib Gohain Baruah and other officials took stock of the election measures, including setting up of the strongroom. For holding of free and fair polls, the district authorities have also promulgated 144 CrPC in the Karimganj municipality and Badarpur town committee areas.
