DIPHU, Aug 2 - Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) celebrated its 30th foundation day on Monday at the central committee office here with a day-long programme.
On the occasion, a meeting was also held to commemorate the foundation day.
While attending the foundation day celebration, former MP Dr Jayanta Rongpi praised the KNCA for articulating and fighting ceaselessly for garnering support for solving the myriad social problems of the Karbi people.
Speaking about the five renegade HSDC MACs, Rongpi said that some may think that the party is now weak as five HSDC MACs joined the BJP. But such a mistaken belief should be dispelled from the minds of the people, he said. Though the party lost some elections, but it will continue its movement in order to attain Statehood, Dr Rongpi said with determination.
Dr Rongpi urged the KNCA to build a strong base by constituting various branch committees at the village level. Another HSDC Convenor and former MLA Holiram Terang also asked the KNCA to play a stellar role in the social and economic issues of the district.
In the morning, a procession was taken out from the KNCA office to the DC�s establishment, where a memorandum was submitted, meant to be subsequently routed to the Governor PB Acharya. The memorandum opposed granting of ST (H) status to the Bodos of Karbi Anglong as per Clause-8 of the Bodo Accord, protested against unprecedented price rise, demanded checking human trafficking and drug abuse, border protection, 33% women�s seat reservation Bill, among others.
