DIPHU, April 6 � The third edition of the Karbi Jutang festival, organised by the Karbi Jutang Chingthur Amei (KJCA) from Thursday, has witnessed a sea of artisans. The autonomous hill district, which has registered a decline in militancy, is now focused on the overall development of the region and in tune with this, the Karbi Jutang Festival has been held which has attracted participants from different parts of Karbi Anglong.
It may be mentioned here that more than 3,500 Karbi artistes are taking part in the four-day festival being held at the Bakaliaghat Sports Association Playground. The festival has showcased the rich and vibrant culture of the North-east.
The extravaganza is a perfect amalgam of dance, food, art and culture. Artists have performed traditional songs and dances. The cultural festival started in the morning with the hoisting the cultural organisation�s flag by Sum Ronghang, president, KJCA, in the presence of thousands of trained Karbi artisans, distinguished persons and the public of the hill district.
Highlighting the Karbi cultural festival, Sum Ronghang said, �Culture is the identity of a nation. Hence, every Karbi has the responsibility to safeguard and promote its development.� He urged the Karbi people to join hands for the development of the Karbi culture. Subsequently, the exhibition stalls of different government and private establishments and institutes, aimed at promoting artisans and their products from different regions was inaugurated by PK Buragohain, Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong district.
The performances by artisans in their traditional attire have been the attraction for visitors. Besides, art, traditional jewellery and apparels displayed by the local people have drawn the crowds. The highlighting of the Karbi cultural festival has also promoted unity among the people of the district.
