GUWAHATI, Aug 9 The Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS) has demanded tripartite talks with the organisations engaged in the movement for an autonomous state of Karbi Anglong under Article 244A of the Indian Constitution. The Action Committee has fixed August 14 as the deadline for the purpose.

Failure of the Government to hold talks on the issue on or before August 14 may lead to more mass uprising through democratic means to press for the autonomous state demand, warned the Action Committee.

JACAS is an umbrella organisation of several students, youth and responsible social organisations of Karbi Anglong, which have been fighting for the creation of an autonomous Karbi Anglong state.

In a statement here, the Action Committee, while welcoming the decision of the Congress Working Committee that favour creation of a separate Telangana state, made an appeal to the Central Government to solve the vexed Karbi Anglong Autonomous State issue.

It warned that the Government will have to assume responsibilities for any untoward incident that may occur following the resumption of the mass uprising in the face of the failure of the governments to initiate talks with the organisations as has been demanded by it.
