Karbi Anglong gears up for Assembly polls

DIPHU, March 10 - After the notification of the Assembly polls by the Election Commission, the Karbi Anglong district administration has geared up its machinery to ensure free and fair elections, slated on April 4 in the district. The Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, Mukul Gogoi held a press conference in this respect.

Briefing reporters, Gogoi said all steps would be taken to conduct free and fair polls. The Returning Officer of the Howraghat and Diphu Legislative Assembly Constituencies added that the process of submission of nomination papers would start from March 11. He further said that altogether 105 polling stations under the Diphu Legislative Assembly Constituency have been identified as sensitive and hypersensitive. Out of them, 35 polling stations have been identified as hypersensitive and four have been identified as critical stations.

On the other hand, 104 polling stations have been identified as hypersensitive and sensitive in Howraghat Legislative Assembly Constituency. Out of them, 10 stations have been identified as hypersensitive. On the other hand, seen polling stations have been identified as critical in the constituency.

Speaking on the smooth conduct of polls, the Returning Officer stated that five flying squads would be deployed and the officer in-charge of all polling stations would be given as magisterial powers during the elections. He added that the process of EVMs and giving training to officials would begin from March 11.

The Returning Officer asked the in-charges of all cells constituted for the smooth and successful conduct of the elections to discharge their duties with adequate attention to details.
