Karbi Anglong BJP leaders join Cong

DIPHU, Oct 20 - Vice president of BJP West Karbi Anglong district committee Sing Teron and another BJP leader George Millik along with their supporters here joined the Congress party at a ceremonial function held at Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC), Diphu office premises on Wednesday.

The development came ahead of the bypoll of the Baithalangso LAC slated to be held on November 19. The two leaders along with their supporters were felicitated with Karbi traditional turban. Former EM, KAAC and vice president of BJP, Sing Teron claimed that many BJP supporters and workers from his Rongkhang MAC constituency are yet to join the Congress.

It may be mentioned here that Teron along with his 182 BJP supporters joined the Congress today. Teron won as MAC for two times consecutively in KAAC elections from Rongkhang MAC constituency with the Congress ticket earlier. Later, he left the Congress camp and joined BJP on March 25, 2014. A few days later he was appointed as vice president of BJP of West Karbi Anglong district committee.

Another BJP leader George Millik along with his BJP supporters of Amreng MAC constituency also joined BJP today. Citing the reason of returning to the Congress, Milik said that it was due to the infighting among the BJP leaders.

Meanwhile, both the leaders assured the observers of the Congress party present in the programme to work wholeheartedly and strengthen the party.

In the joining programme, Diphu MP and district Congress president, Biren Sing Engti, former Diphu MLA, Bidyasing Engleng, former MLA and party observer for Karbi Anglong district Dr Durlabh Chamua, APCC secretary Hukum Chand Ali Bagshi and former minister Rupom Sing Ronghang were present.
