Karate camp gets under way at Chabua

DIBRUGARH, Nov 28 - A 15-day karate training programme, billed � Women�s Self Defence Karate Training Camp � organised by the Office of the District Sports Officer, Dibrugarh in association with Bishnujyoti Udipta Nabaranga and Boragadhoi Yuva Sangha got under way yesterday at the Bindhakata High School premises in Muluk Gaon, Chabua. More than 50 girls from the locality are participating in the camp.

The event was inaugurated by Jahnabi Sonowal, Revenue Officer, Chabua Revenue Circle. The programme was attended by Niranjan Saikia, assistant secretary, Assam Olympic Association and General Secretary, Dibrugarh District Sports Association; Dhrubajyoti Deka, District Sports Officer, Dibrugarh; Biraj Dihingia, Headmaster, Bindhakata High School; Debajani Misong, member, Panitola Anchalik Panchayat; Pulak Sonowal, president, Bindhakata Gaon Panchayat; among others.

Experienced coaches will impart training in the camp where techniques of self defence will be taught to the participating girls. �

The programme was anchored by Niren Phukan, 5th dan karateka and general secretary of Dibrugarh District Karate-Do Association. He was assisted by Biswajit Sonowal, 4th dan karateka.
