Karara health sub centre in pitiable condition

By Ann service

BAIHATA CHARIALI, Oct 12 - Karara health sub centre under Bihdia block PHC of Kamrup district located at Radhakuchi, which is the only health institution of the area covering more than 6,000 people is now in a pitiable condition with lack of some basic amenities.

The health sub centre which was set up during the Asaam Movement on the banks of Radhakuchi Borpukhuri with active contribution and hard labour of some social workers of the locality has been serving the poor local people with minimum facilities provided by the government. At that time ANMs who are now known as MPWs (female) lived there and the public enjoyed better services.

As the building of the sub centre became old, cracks developed on the walls rendering it unfit for living. The doors and windows, toilet, tube well and the floor of the centre have also got damaged. More- over, the sub centre is still running without an electricity connection.

The bank of the pond where the building is situated has also eroded posing a threat to its very existence. If government does not take any initiative to stop erosion of the bank, the sub centre will lose its existence within a few years.

As the government has launched a number of health schemes for the public, accordingly the responsibility of the health workers has also increased by the day. Though the government has launched a number of new schemes for general people, but the concerned department or government has not taken the initiative to renovate or rebuild some old sub centre buildings to serve the people. So the public of the area has urged the government as well as to the MLA of Kamalpur LAC Satyabrat Kalita to provide a special package to renovate the old sub centre building.
