IMPHAL, March 13 - President of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students Union Kanhaiya Kumar has expressed support to Manipurs human rights defender Irom Chani Sharmilas movement against Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA).

This was conveyed by Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested recently on the charges of raising anti-India slogans in a student rally against the 2013 hanging of Mohammed Afzal Guru, to a team of All Manipur Working Journalists Union(AMWJU), which was in Delhi, sources here informed.

JNU had organised some programmes in support of Sharmila and against AFSPA. When Sharmila came to Delhi, we participated in her demonstrations. Unfortunately, I have not personally met her, Kanhaiya told the AMWJU team.

Appealing to NE and particularly students of Manipur, Kanhaiya said that there are some wrong perceptions about JNU. We always stand against AFSPA. We always stand for human rights and fundamental rights of the common masses. So please join our movement, save JNU, save the nation, Kanhaiya, leader of All India Student Federation, student wing of CPI said.
