Kanak Ch Boro passes away

TEZPUR, March 18 - Noted social worker, ex-president of Sonitpur district Bodo Sahitya Sabha, a resident of Ulubari area near Thelamara under Dhekiajuli LAC in Sonitpur district, Kanak Chandra Boro passed away in a Guwahati-based private hospital last night. He was 86.

Born on June 24, 1933, Kanak Boro after passing his MV Examination in 1952, cleared matriculation with flying colours from historic Tezpur Govt Boys� HS School in 1957 and got admission in Cotton College for further studies, where he excelled in every field. Later, Kanak Boro graduated from Darrang College here in Mathematics in 1962. He had many opportunities to work in different government departments across the nation with prestigious positions. However, due to his indomitable zeal of serving the society he came back to his own place and got involved in many social work like establishment of schools, naamghars and many socio-cultural organizations. He first joined as Asstt. Teacher of Prajapati HS School in Bargaon area in 1959.

In the later years, he also served in Beseria HS School, and then joined as an assistant teacher of Kawoimari Jugal HS aiming to create a new academic environment in the area. A brilliant personality, late Boro cleared his BEd degree from Mangaldai College of Teacher Education in 1985 and took charge as the Headmaster of the school in 1961 and retired in 1996. Late Boro served the Sonitpur District Bodo Sahitya Sabha as a president from 1982 to 1987 for two consecutive terms.

His last rites were performed in presence of a number of admirers. Prior to it, a funeral procession was taken out in the area. Different organizations and personalities including Jugal High School authority, Thelamara, Bapuji Bhawan management committee, Thelamara HS School management committee, Thelamara Jatiya Vidyalaya, Sonitpur Boro Sahitya Sabha, Thelamara ABSU, AASU, Santhali Students� Union, among others, paid their last tributes to the noted social worker.
