Kamrup veterans lift trophy

GUWAHATI, April 24 - With a deserving 63-run victory against Lakhimpur, Kamrup clinched the title in the 11th Veteran Inter District and Inter Institution Invitational T-20 Cricket Tournament.

The winning team walked away with the Madhurjya Prasad Barooah trophy along with a cash award of Rs 20,000. Runners-up Lakhimpur was presented Badan Chandra Saikia and a purse of Rs 10,000.

In the final played at Mangaldai today, deciding to bat first Kamrup notched up 153 for the loss of five wickets. The Lakhimpur batsmen failed to chase down the target and were restricted to 90 for nine.

The tournament was organised by the Veteran Cricket Association of Assam, Mangaldai Chapter�in Association with Veteran Cricket Association of Assam (VCAA).

In the closing function, Devajit Saikia, secretary ACA, Porikhit Dutta vice president ACA, Tapash Chakraborty, member, Apex Council ACA, Badal Thakur, noted cricketer, Naba Konwar, president VCAA, Pranab Sharma working president VCAA, Nasir Gul Khan general secretary VCAA, former cricketers Shankar Datta Lahkar, Mukut Das, Raju Phukan, Dr Ramendra Bhuyan were present as guests and gave away the prizes.

The individual trophy winners are: MoM-Pradip Chetry (Kamrup), Best bowler-Nitin Das (Guwahati), Best batsman/MoT-Mukut Kalita (Kamrup).

Brief scores: Kamrup 153/5 (Mukut Kalita 45, Kaushik Oja 35, Eebon Dutta 25, Manoranjan Bharali 2/20, Manjeet Barby Sarma 2/26). Lakhimpur 90/9 (Javed Khan 23, Rituraj Borpatra Gohain 20, Pradip Chetry 3/17, Bhaskarjyoti Barman 2/19).
