Kamrup to play Goalpara in AASU soccer final

JORHAT, Dec 23 � Goalpara will take on Kamrup in the final of the RG Baruah AASU Gold Cup Inter District Football Tournament.

In two semifinals played at the JDSA ground here today, Goalpara defeated Sivasagar by a margin of 2-0 goals while Kamrup outshot Tinsukia by an aggregate of 4-3 goal via tie-breaker. The match was locked 1-1 in the regulation time.

For Goalpara, Dipak Boro opened the account in the 53rd minute while Boloram Rabha confirmed their victory scoring in the 61st minute.

In the other semifinal, Jogen Boro put Kamrup ahead in the 47th minute but Barun Chutia restored parity in the 79th minute. In the penalty shoot-out, Jogen Boro, Jayanta Boro and Inuk Chawak were the successful shooters for Kamrup while for Tinsukia only Sahajyoti Kalita and Sanjukta neog could hit the target.

Earlier in the quarterfinals, Kamrup beat Jorhat 1-0, Tinsukia beat Golaghat 2-1, Goalpara beat Nalbari 4-0 and Sivasagar beat Dibrugarh 2-1.

The final will be played tomorrow and kick off is at 12.30 pm.
