GUWAHATI, Feb 29 - The Chief Ministers Award for Excellence in Public Administration was today conferred to the Kamrup Metro district in recognition of the digital innovative initiative for improvement and ease in service delivery undertaken by the district administration as part of its Mahanagar project.

The award, which has been instituted for the first time, was handed over by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi during a function held at the Assam Administrative Staff College here in the presence of dignitaries and senior officials of the State government.

The award includes a citation and a cash amount, which was received by Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, along with other members of the high officials of district administration.

The Mahanagar project for which the district has secured the award, includes various client-server applications designed for branches of the district administration as well as other district-level departments like health, social welfare, agriculture, banks and so on.

The major applications are electronic record management system, ICDS project monitoring system, KCC loan monitoring system, kerosene distribution monitoring system, drug store management system, high pregnant women monitoring system and blood donor information system.

Some of the services being rendered through the application are downloading of location slip for delivery of original registered deeds, retrieval of next date of hearing in revenue cases, online downloading of case orders, online search for blood donors on emergency, online search for availability of drugs in district drug store, status of land sale petitions, online search for status of lifting of kerosene in the grassroot level and status of schemes under MPLAD scheme.

The application provides tools for monitoring on different schemes like ICDS project, kerosene distribution, KCC loan and status of drugs in the district.

With introduction of the application, the age-old manual system of functioning in branches has been increasingly replaced to increase efficiency and transparency of the administration and SMS-based system has been incorporated to facilitate communication with the citizens, officials said.

The latest achievement comes just days after the Mahanagar project bagged the 6th e-Northeast Award 2016 in a competition held in Shillong, which was organised by the North East Development Foundation with support from the North Eastern Council.
