GUWAHATI, Aug 3 - Arun Bora, DTO Kamrup (Metro), Simanta Neog, head assistant, Arup Kumar Barman, junior assistant, and Siddheshwar Ranghang, cashier � all employees of the Kamrup (Metro) DTO Office � have been placed under suspension with immediate effect over irregularities in motor vehicle tax.
An official release said that an inquiry on irregularities regarding deposition of motor vehicle tax revealed tax evasion being allowed by the DTO Kamrup (Metro), wherein a vehicle owner could pay the current year tax by skipping the arrear, which was against the rules.
Acting on Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary�s direction, the department placed the officials under suspension. The department has also directed the Commissioner of Transport to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.
�The department will recover the taxes wherever evaded, as all the data is available in the NIC database. Further, the transport department had a detailed meeting today with NIC authorities as they maintain the Vahan portal, and directed them to plug technical loopholes to prevent any such irregularities in future,� the release added.
