GUWAHATI, May 19 � To avoid any mishap during the monsoon season from overhanging branches, the Kamrup Metro district administration has directed the Forest department to take necessary steps for pruning and trimming of the branches of trees which they consider to be dangerous and hazardous.
In this respect, a regular squad will be constituted by the Forest department to examine the matter and take necessary steps so that routine life of the people are not disturbed and endangered, said an official statement.
The squad will be divided into groups so that various localities of the city can be covered.
The administration said that during storms there have been frequent incidents of disruption in road connectivity and supply of electricity, damage to houses and other properties, besides death of rare birds due to falling of big branches of old trees at various places.
�Owners of households should also examine and monitor the big trees around their household and take necessary steps for pruning as well as trimming. They may also take the help of the Forest department if the task is difficult for them. The district administration will also help them in this aspect,� it said.
It also called upon the heads of government offices and of residential apartment societies to monitor their concerned buildings to check any cracks or other faults in their buildings and take necessary steps for repairing these immediately so that any kind of casualty is avoided in case of earthquakes or other disasters.
�If they notice major faults, they are advised to inform the district administration immediately. In this respect the district administration will immediately respond. Moreover, the district administration has already constituted several monitoring committees to look into various matters related to safety of the people and they are in operation. But the district administration feels that people�s participation and vigilance are necessary to avert any kind of casualty,� it added.
