Kamrup (M) admin embarks on plantation drive

GUWAHATI, June 5 � On the occasion of the World Environment Day today, the district administration of Kamrup Metro initiated a massive plantation drive by involving 15 government departments.

All the 15 departments involved were assigned to collect saplings from different camps and nurseries covered by the City plantation range, Sonapur SE Range, Boko SE Range and Pragjyotishpur SF Beat and carry out the plantation drive within office campuses and their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, initiated the plantation drive organised by the Inspector of Schools, Kamrup Metro, at the Blind School at Basistha in the presence of senior officials from the civic administration, teachers from different schools and students.

In his inaugural speech, the Deputy Commissioner announced that the district administration has planned to place a proposal to the RMSA for allocating an amount of Rs 20 lakh as grant for settling up a Science Lab and Computer Lab in the Blind School, Basistha, for the benefit of the students.

He spoke about the relevance of the World Environment Day and the need to carry the message among the young generation so that they become the torchbearers of a new era.

As part of the programme, saplings were distributed among the teachers of various educational institutions. Prizes were announced for the art competition held among the students of different schools on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

A cultural programme by the students of the Blind School was organised on the occasion.

Saplings were planted within the campus of the Blind School by the Deputy Commissioner, along with other dignitaries.

It is noteworthy that the district administration is organising a special drive to plant 5.5 lakh saplings in the city over the next ten days as part of the State government�s �Manasa� programme.

As part of it, all the Additional DCs and EACs were assigned with the responsibility to coordinate and supervise the drive.
