BAIHATA CHARIALI, Sept 30 - In view of the skyrocketing prices of onion, the Kamrup district administration held a meeting at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner recently.

The meeting, which was chaired by Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district, asked the traders not to hike onion and potato prices.

After threadbare discussion, the meeting fixed the prices of onion and potato. Now, onion will be sold at Rs 4,500 to 4,950 per quintal and for Bengal potato, Rs 800 to 850 per quintal.

Similarly, the retail price of onion will be Rs 50 to Rs 54 per kg and for Bengal potato Rs 12 to Rs 13 per kg.

The meeting directed the state Food and Civil Supply Department to supervise and monitor the prices of these food commodities regularly so that no dishonest businessman can sell these commodities at a higher price on the pretext of artificial crisis.

In the meeting, Gobinda Chandra Kalita, Deputy Director incharge of the Food and Civil Supply Department explained the purpose of the meeting where Additional Deputy Commissioner Kanta Das was present, besides a sizeable section of traders.
