Kampur deliberates on ways to save planet earth

KAMPUR, April 26 � In order to create awareness among the people, particularly the youths and schoolgoing students, about the urgent need to save the world from all sorts of pollution, the World Environment Day was observed at Kampur with a two-day programme on April 21 and 22 under the auspices of the Centre for Environment Education.

A lively discussion on the topic, �Save our planet� was held on April 21 at Kampur Higher Secondary and Multi Purpose School under the presidentship of SR Mazumdar, retired principal of Kampur College, which was attended by a number of distinguished personalities, including PR Saikia, principal of Kampur Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School, Rupali Saikia, a teacher and a noted social worker and a host of others. The speakers stressed on the need to save the world from all sorts of pollution.

Earlier, Dharani Saikia, Project Associate, Centre for Environment Education explained the objectives of the meeting and welcomed the guests.

During the second day�s programme held at the local Sankardev Bidya Niketan, a number of Centre for Environment Education activists explained to the students with pictures the urgent need to protect the world from pollution.

On both the days, a large number of saplings were planted in both the schools. An art competition depicting pollution was also held on the occasion among the students.
