KOKRAJHAR, Aug 11 - The Kamatapur Progressive Party (KPP) has decided to extend full support to the United Peoples Party, Liberal (UPPL) in the ensuing BTC election.

This was disclosed by the KPP president Pradip Ray and UPPL vice president Prativa Brahma respectively at a joint press meet held today at the Kokrajhar Press Club.

Talking to mediapersons, both the leaders revealed that both the parties have also agreed to contest the next Assam and West Bengal Assembly elections together.

In the greater interest of the people of the BTC region and to bring change thereby and establish rule of law, usher in healthy democracy, end 17 years of corrupt regime by BPF, establish peace, create jobs, educational opportunities etc, we have decided to extendfull support to the Pramod Boro-led UPPL party, the president of KPP, Pradip Ray said.

He further said, support has been extended to UPPL party on certain conditions such as to nominate an MCLA from Koch Rajbongshi community, form Koch Rajbongshi Development Board, support the formation of a strong Kamatapur Autonomous Council outside the BTC region, introduce Koch Rajbongshi language as medium of instruction, construct Chilarai Bhawan in each BTC district and so on. The UPPL leadership has conceded our demands, thus we have decided to work together not only during the ensuing BTC election, but in the forthcoming Assembly election too, he said.

At the same time, he urged all the members of the Koch Rajbongshi community, besides all the voters in general to vote for UPPL for a revolutionary change under the visionary leadership of Pramod Boro.

Addressing mediapersons, UPPL vice president Pratibha Brahma said, Koch Rajbongshis are one of the most neglected and deprived community of this region. If voted to power, it will be our moral responsibility to work for the all-round development of this community. We are committed to fulfil the promises that we made to the KPP leaders in this regard, she said.

The leadership of both the political parties have expressed full confidence of winning the BTC election with full majority.

Long 17 years of misrule and corruption has acted as a strong anti-incumbency factor for BPF, she observed.
