Kalpana to perform at CWG closing ceremony

GUWAHATI, March 29 - Singer Kalpana Patowary will take part in the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on April 13 to be held in Gold Coast, Australia. She will represent Indian folk music and its rich traditions in the cultural extravaganza.

Stating this at a media briefing at the Guwahati Press Club today, Patowary said she would be showcasing her Assamese and Bhojpuri repertoire at the international platform following an invitation by the Australian government.

�I feel proud and honoured to be representing Assamese and Bhojpuri folk traditions at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony. I am happy that I�ll be doing this at an international platform,� she said.

Today�s event also saw the release of her album Hridoy Binar Taar Singi Gol Bohubar, a collection of romantic Assamese songs. The lyrics have been penned by Dr Dinesh Baishya, Dr Lakhyahira Das, Dr Lila Gogoi, Manik Das, Apurba Bezbarua and Dr Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi. The music has been composed by Patowary�s guru Dipen Roy.
