Kalita Janagosthi rues Govt apathy

By Correspondent

GORESWAR, March 10 - In a press release issued by Anupal Dutta Pathok, president, Samarjyoti Deka, vice-president and Bhaskar Kalita, secretary of Kalita Janagosthi Students Union (AAKJSU) demanded inclusion of Kalita Janagosthis history in the curriculum of Class IX and X.

The students union expressed strong resentment over the Assamese rapid reader of Class IX and X titled Baisitra Axom where the history of all ethnic groups of Assam had been reflected, but left out the larger and ancient indigenous ethnic group of Assam, i.e., Kalita Janagosthi.

The Kalita Janagosthi is an ancient group of Assam with around 70 lakh people. Yet the group is neglected by the Assam government as well as Secondary Education Board of Assam. It is a mystery, stated a press release.

They also said that the Kalita Janagosthi is rich with their own culture and the contribution of the group towards the nation is very valuable.

From legendary Kalita king Bhagadutta in the Mahabharata to Haradutta, Veeradutta, Arimatta, Mahapurush Madhab Dev, litterateur Banikanta Kakati, freedom fighter Maniram Dewan, martyr Khargeswar Talukdar, poet Raghunath Choudhury, politician Bishnuram Medhi, Mohendra Mohan Choudhury, Bimala Prasad Chaliha and Kaliram Medhi were also from the Kalita Janagosthi, yet the Janagosthi has not been included in the rapid reader of Class IX and X, they rued in the press release.
