Kalam to attend science fair

GUWAHATI, Feb 2 � Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam would be visiting the State to interact with select science enthusiasts, innovators and farmers on February 6.

The distinguished technology developer and science educator will be speaking at Jana Bigyan Mela organised by the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) in association with Pub Kamrup College for close to an hour from 10.30 in the morning, after which he will interact with the audience.

Official sources revealed that the former First Citizen consented to take part in the session after correspondence was initiated from the Chief Minister�s Office. Dr Kalam is known for his passion to popularise science and technology, and on this tour would be interacting with students from schools and colleges along with others.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, along with a few Cabinet colleagues and senior bureaucrats will attend the function.

The thrust of the first ever Jana Bigyan Mela from February 5 to 7 at Baihata Chariali would be on bringing together new and traditional technologies onto a common base and to create a forum to discuss and deliberate on Indigenous Scientific Knowledge, in which traditional practitioners and scientists could exchange ideas and information to improve the status of indigenous knowledge.
