Kalakshetra working to enrich people�s lives: CM

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra established on the teachings of Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankaradeva, has been working relentlessly to enrich the cultural, social, intellectual and spiritual life of the people belonging to the Barak-Brahmaputra valleys and the hills and plains.

Speaking at the 23rd foundation day programme of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra at Panjabari here today, Sonowal said that besides creating strong bonds, the Kalakshetra has its role in churning out personalities with varied qualities from different hues. It may be noted that with the celebration of this foundation day, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra has been opened for visitors. He also set an agenda for the Kalakshetra and said that it (Kalakshetra) must play an active role in spreading the teachings and philosophy of Sankaradeva outside the State.

Expressing his gratitude to former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta as well as other personalities of the State who were instrumental in establishing the Kalakshetra, Sonowal said that the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society should motivate the younger generation in imbibing the pristine cultural facets of the State. He also said that the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society must try to set up its branches in different parts of the country.

Sonowal also inaugurated 14 high mast lights installed by the Guwahati Development Department. He also released an �information booklet�, a website, Facebook page and twitter account of the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society.

The welcome speech of the programme was delivered by the vice chairman of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society and MLA Angoorlata Deka. Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister for Guwahati Development Department Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Minister of State (i/c) for Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley and MP Queen Oja also spoke on the occasion.

MLAs Atul Bora; Suman Haripriya; Chief Minister�s Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami; Commissioner and Secretary Cultural Affairs Department, Preetom Saikia; Secretary, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society Sudarshan Thakur and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
