By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - The Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra will reopen for common visitors on November 9 following the COVID protocol.

The Kalakshetra has remained closed for last about nine months in view of the anti-CAA protests and COVID-19 pandemic. Its 23rd foundation day will also be observed on November 9 with a range of activities.

Addressing the media here today, Kalakshetra secretary Sudarshan Thakur and vice chairman and MLA Angoorlata Deka said that different activities have been planned to add vibrancy to the Kalakshetra.

A bronze bust of Srimanta Sankaradeva will be set up on the Kalakshetra premises. Moreover, the website of the organisation has been revamped to incorporate regular updates about the activities of the Kalakshetra. Visitors can also have access to the Kalakshetra archive through this website.

In addition, 14 high mast lights meant to brightly illuminate the Kalakshetra premises under the Smart City Mission, will be inaugurated on the foundation day.

It may be noted that every year Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra organises cultural activities during New Year. From the New Year of 2021, the programmes on folk cultures of different communities of Assam will also be organised every Sunday. A cultural exchange programme has also been lined up from the beginning of next year.

Kalakshetra vice chairman Deka also informed the media that henceforth the office work of the Kalakshetra would be done in Assamese language only.

Kalakshetra secretary Thakur added that five new extended campuses of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra have been planned in Delhi, Dibrugarh, Diphu, Kokrajhar and Silchar.
