Kalaigaon Lekhika Samaroh meet concludes

KALAIGAON, March 18 - The second biannual session of Kalaigaon Lekhika Samaroh, a branch of Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti concluded at Kalaigaon on March 17 with day-long programme.

The session was held at Kalaigaon IB premises in the presence of hundreds of people, mostly women and girls. Hoisting of the Lekhika Samaroh flag by its president Champa Hazarika Deka marked the beginning of the ceremony at 8 am followed by a homage-paying ceremony conducted by veteran member Rupali Barua Deka, adviser of the Samiti. Hemalata Saharia lit the ceremonial lamp at 9 am followed by an interactive session among the women present.

The open session was inaugurated by Debaraj Sapkata, president of Udalguri Zila Sahitya Sabha at 11 am, which was presided over by Champa Hazarika Deka. Bijuli Deka Das, president of the reception committee read out a report where she highlighted the activities of a few noted ladies of Kalaigaon, namely Swarnalata Hazarika, Kanak Lata Das, Maheswari Devi, Anupama Debi, Chandra Prabha Kataki, Kiron Saikia, etc., for organising the Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti in early 1957.

The Samiti was formed for revival of cultural and literary activities among women of Kalaigaon during the period from 1951 to 1963.

A discussion on �Role of mothers in removing gaps between children and family� was held, which was conducted by Dr Mohini Goswami, founder president of Darrang Zila Lekhika Samaroh Samiti.

Baroda Saikia, vice president of Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Dr Dipamoni Barua Das, Bijoya Deka etc., also participated in the discussion. Manju Debi Pegu inaugurated a souvenir titled Sotosrini published on the occasion. Idris Ali, former vice president of Asam Sahitya Sabha attended the session as the chief guest.

Several distinguished people, including Jagadish Sarkar EM of BTC; Biraj Kumar Barua, Revenue Circle Officer of Kalaigaon; Bornali Das, Deputy Superintendent of Kalaigaon Model Hospital; social workers Kami Ram Saharia, Mahendra Saikia, Jiban Saharia, Kamal Prasad Sarma, Chitraleka Hazarika, among others, also attended the day-long session.
