GUWAHATI, June 20 - Along with the rest of the State, various organisations of the city today observed Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Divas to pay tributes to the cultural legend, who not only enriched the artistic tradition of Assam with his immortal creations but also epitomised the age-old amity among the people of the hills and the plains and different communities of the region.
Rabha Divas was observed in a befitting manner by Assam Jatiya Bidyalay at its campus at Noonmati today. The programme began at 10.30 am with the lighting of ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Kalaguru. A chorus followed and the significance of the occasion was explained to the audience by Barnil Medhi, a Class X student of the school.
The chief guest of the occasion, Abani Ranjan Pathak, former Centre Director, All India Radio, Guwahati, in his speech dwelt on the multifaceted personality of Bishnu Rabha, including his revolutionary spirit. A wall magazine on the life and creativity of Bishnu Rabha was released by the Rector of the school, Ranjit Narayan Deka.
Ashim Krishna Baruah, a senior teacher from the Department of Social Science, spoke on the life and contribution of the legend, terming him as a true social scientist. He said Rabha�s thoughts and ideals have been still running in the hearts of every Assamese.
A selected group of students performed a dance and lent their voice to some of Rabha�s songs and poems.
Teachers Barnali Das and Bhaskarjyoti Haloi performed a duet song. On the occasion, tributes were paid to Krishna Kumar Bora, former Academic Director of the school, and Raktabh Dutta Choudhury, a former student of the school.
The anchoring of the programme was done by Juri Goswami, head of the pre-primary section of the school. The convenor of Bishnu Rabha Divas 2018 was Dipak Konch, a teacher from the Department of Assamese.
All Guwahati Students� Union, too, observed Rabha Divas at Swahid Nyas in Uzanbazar. The programme began at 11 am and was initiated by the All Guwahati Students� Union general secretary Raifuddin Ahmed. Tributes were paid at the portrait of the Kalaguru while speakers dwelt on the contributions of the cultural doyen. Students from various schools also participated in the programme.
The Lawyers� Association, Guwahati, also observed Rabha Divas at its office campus today. The ceremonial lamp was lighted by Association president Biraj Kumar Choudhury, and the general secretary Amal Chandra Baishya conducted the proceedings.
