By Correspondent

AIZAWL, March 11 - Blacktopping of 81.500 km out of 87 km of the Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) Road has been completed, a Mizoram PWD official said.

PWD Executive Engineer (Multi Modal Project Division) C Lalhumhima told visiting journalists today that the total physical achievement is 94.20 per cent and all works except construction of two bridges, would be completed within this year.

The initial estimated length of the KMMTTP Road within Mizoram was 99.83 km, which has now been cut short to 88 km. He said a length of 87 km would be blacktopped, and eight bridges would be constructed.

The road has been divided into three packages. Construction has been going on for six bridges out of eight. Proof checking of the bridge design for the first and the last bridges is being done at IIT-Guwahati, works for which will commence after its approval, he said.

The bridges will have a substructure and superstructure. Bearing manufacture of the superstructure is being done at Kolkata and steel girder superstructure at Noida, Delhi.

The department concerned felt that the proof checking of the bridge design has taken a long time and reported that construction has halted for 430 days due to land acquisition. They plead that authorities may try to solve the existing land acquisition problems as soon as possible for timely completion of the construction.
