GUWAHATI, July 24 - Even though measures by the Government have helped address the hassles faced both by traders and buyers at the Kachari Ghat market area, lack of a permanent roof continues to be a source of inconvenience for the people.
Kachari Ghat, a key market for vegetables, grocery and fruits on the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra have been facing the wrath of the river. Over the last few years, flooding has been often reported in the market place, impacting business. However, steps taken by the government to fight the problem seems to have yielded results.
Though the traders no longer have to battle the surging waters of the Brahmaputra, their agonies are not yet over.
Absence of a roof in the market has affected the traders as well buyers immensely. Heavy wind and rain continue to impact day-to-day activities of the traders. "As it is a daily market which provides the common people with all their requirements, a concrete roof is the need of the hour. It will be of much relief to the small time traders and customers," said a trader.
