By Correspondent

DIPHU, April 17 - Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is fully prepared to meet any food crisis if the nationwide lockdown continues beyond May 3. This was informed by Amarsing Tisso, Executive Member of Agriculture and other departments. Tisso is at present overseeing distribution of essential food items in 17 Member of Autonomous Council constituency areas spread across the autonomous district alongside West Karbi Anglong district.

We have stocked enough quantity of rice, pulses, potato, salt and other essential food items and have already distributed enough foodgrain among BPL card holders and among people who are not listed. Food distribution will continue by following government guidelines and maintaining all safety precautions. I can assure you there is no food predicament in KAAC administered area. Till now due to the closely controlled lifestyle of our people, particularly the rural dwellers this pandemic has failed to penetrate in any locality of the two hill districts administered by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

However, utmost precaution will be required to be maintained if the lockdown is lifted. We are flanked by vastly-populated districts of Nagaon and Hojai in two regions beside Dimapur city of Nagaland and Meghalaya in the west. Once passage of normal traffic begins, our place will turn out to be vulnerable, Tisso maintained.

The vast hilly region of 10,434 square kilometres consisting of West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong autonomous district has been marked as green zone. At present no coronavirus positive case has been detected in any of the districts. Till date, 17 persons have been kept in isolation and around 1084 persons have been quarantined (including home quarantine in both the districts).
