KAAC fails to present interim budget

By Correspondent

DIPHU, March 13 The alleged financial anomalies in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections have totally jeopardised the situation of thousands employees serving under the jurisdiction of the Council.

According to Council authority, the vote on account, or the budget session, for approving the financial plan of the KAAC for the year 2014-15 should have been held synchronising with the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. But till date, the authority has not been able to hold the budget session. The authority has already dispatched a letter to the Election Commission seeking its permission to hold the session and has almost completed preparations to hold a day-long session on Friday.

We expect that the Election Commission will allow us to conduct the session under certain terms and conditions, but in case the authority withholds permission, the Council will face severe financial crunch till the election process is over, said an official of the Council administration.
