GUWAHATI, Aug 27 - Noted astrologer Khargeswar Goswami was today conferred the title 'Jyotish Ratna' at the North East Vedic Astrological conference here.

The award was presented to Goswami by Satradhikar Pitambar Deva Goswami. The programme was held at the District Library auditorium.

The title was given to Goswami in recognition of his contribution to the research and development of Indian astrology and his encouragement to the propagation, modernisation and popularity of this branch of knowledge.

Goswami, presently working with ASTEC, has been doing research on the astrology for the past thirty years.

The two-day meet, which concluded today, was organised by the Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage, Assam Branch and the Vedic Astrological Research Society, Guwahati.

Noted astrologers and scholars discussed several issues regarding Sanskrit literature, Kabya, Vedanta, Purana, Vaastu, Tantra, Palmistry, etc. during the meet.
