Jyotirupa one-act play contest begins

GUWAHATI, Feb 17 - �In the years-long journey of Assamese one-act play, Jyotirupa has contributed a lot. This one-act play competition becomes a pride for us. The legacy of the event continues due to the strong leadership of Prafulla Govinda Baruah and hard work of other members of the organising committee.�

This was stated by writer Kirti Kamal Bhuyan here today while inaugurating the Jyotirupa 41st year North-East One-Act Play Competition, 2020, and the Kishore Thakuria Memorial Mono-Acting Competition, 2020, at the district library auditorium. He also released a souvenir as part of the event.

Altogether 14 groups from different parts of the State will take part in the two-day competition. They are namely � Rong-Chora from Barpeta, Panchakanya from Guwahati, Srijani Jatiya Bidyalaya from Sonitpur, Prayash Natya Gosthi from Jamugurihat, Bhas Theater from Nagaon, Eagle from Guwahati, Dengrali Creators Hub from Sonapur, Natya Mandir from Dhemaji, Nat Shala from Bajali, Nibedan from Nagaon, Natsikha from Bajali, Kalaguru Sanskritik Vikash Kendra from Chaygaon, Reel Asom from Darrang and Samannay Khetra from Nalbari.

The best team of the competition will get the Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Running Trophy, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 15,000, the second best team will get Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Running Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 10,000, and the third best team will get Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Running Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 7,000.

The best playwright of the competition will get Ishan Barua Memorial Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 3,000. The best director will get Shiva Thakur Memorial Running Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 3,000. The best actor will get Shishir Goswami Memorial Award and cash Rs 3,000 and the best actress will get Doli Gupta Memorial Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 3,000.

Again, the best comedian will get Gunin Rajkhowa Running Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 2,000, the best child actor will get Siddhartha Medhi Memorial Running Award, Jyotirupa Award and Rs 1,000, the second best director will get OP Nayar Award and cash Rs 1,500, the second best actor will get Premalata Lahkar Memorial Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 1,500 and second best actress will get Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 1,500. The best discipline team of the competition will get Kishore Thakuria Memorial Running Award and cash Rs 2,000.

In the Kishore Thakuria Memorial Mono-Acting Competition, 2020, the best artiste will get Kishore Thakuria Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 2,000, the second best artiste will get Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 1,500 and third best artiste will get Jyotirupa Award and cash Rs 1,000.

The panel of judged include Sadhan Hazarika, Purnima Pathak and Subheswar Das.

Host of dignitaries were present in the event, including Jyotirupa president Prafulla Govinda Baruah.
