Jyotirupa drama fest inaugurated

GUWAHATI, Feb 23 � Padmashree and noted playwright Arun Sarma today inaugurated the 2nd Jyotirupa Singha Purush Radha Govinda Baruah full length drama festival at Rabindra Bhawan here and said that such an effort on the part of the organisers will go a long way in making the young generation aware about the multifaceted personality of one of the illustrious sons of the soil and particularly about his histrionic skills.

It needs to be mentioned here that RG Baruah is also remembered for reviving the theatre movement in Dibrugarh and taking it to a new height. He also contributed towards the reformation of the Amolapatty Natya Mandir, Dibrugarh and had inched into the hearts of the people by acting in challenging roles.

Sarma, while recalling the contributions of RG Baruah said that the festival was a timely step to give one of the pathfinders of the State his deserved dues for contributing towards the theatre movement which very few people knew.

Earlier, Sarma offered floral tributes to the portrait of RG Baruah whom he described as a dreamer who enriched society by developmental activities.

Sarma was also felicitated on the occasion by the organizers. The president of Jyotirupa and editor of The Assam Tribune, PG Baruah, presented a gamosa, cheleng sador and a memento to Sarma.
