Jyoti-Nazrul Jayanti observed

NAGAON, June 25 � Under the auspices of the Jyotiprasad-Nazrul Janma Jayanti Udjapan Samiti, a function was held on June 17 here, where noted writer Dr Rezaul Karim discussed the lives and philosophies of both luminaries. He discussed their literary achievements as well as contributions to the cultural field.

Dr Karim said that more discussions on Nazrul should be held in Assam as he was one of the torchbearers in the field of secularism and socialism. Dr Jyotirmoy Jena presided over the meeting. Rupali Guha, Parwati Chakravarty, Tanaya Chakravarty and Dr Devendra Nath Muktiyar presented Jyoti Sangeet, Nazrul Geet and Nazrul poems.

The Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, with the cooperation of the Nagaon Marwari Sanmilan, also observed Jyoti Divas. Floral tributes were offered at the statue of Jyotiprasad. The president of the Zila Sahitya Sabha, Rati Mohan Nath, president of the Marwari Sanmilan, Jugal Kishore Agarwala and assistant secretary of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Padma Rajkhowa recalled the role of Jyotiprasad in enriching Assamese culture and literature.

The Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha also observed the 157th smriti divas of Anandaram Dhekial Phukan on June 16 by paying floral tributes at his statue at Nehrubali.
