Justina, Tushar clinch AITA titles

GUWAHATI, June 13 - Assam players Justina Borgohain and Tushar Paul clinched the singles titles in the girls and boys events respectively of the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament for U-16 years age group which concluded today at the All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) Complex in Chachal here.

In the all-Assam finals, third seeded Justina ousted second seed Tanishqa Patar in straight sets 6-4, 6-0, while the boys singles final witnessed a gruelling fight between Tushar Paul and Shahir Farhaz. Tushar ultimately became the winner by defeating Shahir 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4) in extremely hot and humid conditions.

AATA secretary and tournament director Ankush Dutta informed that the next leg of the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament for boys and girls U-18 years will start from June 17 for which the qualifying rounds of the tournament will be held on June 15 and 16.

Results: (Boys U-16, S/F) Top seed Shahir Farhaz (AS) bt 3rd seed Arounesh Bora (AS) 7-6 (6), 4-0 (conceded); 2nd seed Tushar Paul (AS) bt Pritam Barua (AS) 6-0, 6-0. (Final) Tushar Paul (AS) bt Shahir Farhaz (AS) 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4) (upset). (Girls U-16, final) 3rd seed Justina Borgohain (AS) bt 2nd seed Tanishqa Patar (AS) 6-4, 6-0 (upset).
