Justice Ranjan Gogoi to open celebrations

GUWAHATI, Jan 22 - The Assam Tribune Employees' Union will celebrate its diamond jubilee on January 27 and 28.

Separate committees have been constituted to oversee the arrangements for the programmes planned over the two days on the Assam Tribune premises.

On January 27, the programme will start with the ceremonial flag-hoisting at 9.30 am. The diamond jubilee celebrations will be inaugurated by Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the chief guest at 11 am. Justice Gogoi will also release the souvenir.

General secretary of the Confederation of Newspapers and News Agency Employees Organisation MS Yadav and Vice Chancellor of the Down Town University Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, as the guests of honour, will address the gathering on the inaugural day. An interactive session with correspondents and agents has been planned on the same day, which will conclude with the Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah memorial cultural programme to be inaugurated by noted singer Sudakshina Sarma.

The second day's programme will begin with a procession, which will be followed by an interactive session with newspaper hawkers.

The open session will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at 2.30 pm. Among other guests present would be Palagummi Sainath, former Rural Affairs Editor of The Hindu, and Dr K Hemlata, president, CITU, and SD Thakur, president of AINEF.

The event will conclude with the Bishnu Prasad Rabha memorial cultural programme, which will commence at 6.10 pm.

The cultural programme, to be organised in association with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, will feature noted artistes like Loknath Goswami, Kula Baruah, Dwipen Baruah, Samar Hazarika, Anima Choudhury, JP Das, Karunadhar Sarma, Pankaj Bordoloi, Tarali Sarma, Jina Rajkumari, Debaprasad Mishra, Queen Das, Bhaben Saikia, Manoj Baruah, Apurba Das, Sangeeta Kakoty and Dikshu.
