JORABAT, Feb 27 - A herd of wild elephants entered Teteliaguri village under Sonapur revenue circle late last night causing damage and widespread panic in the village.
The elephants damaged several houses and belongings of the residents. The herd also ate up paddy and rice stored after harvest and also damaged several coconut and banana trees in and around the area.
We had a miraculous escape from the elephants as we ran out from the back door of our house, said a local man.
As the forest department has failed to take any constructive step against the havoc caused by jumbos, the locals demanded a permanent solution to the frequent visits by the pachyderms.
It may be mentioned that teams from the forest and revenue offices normally visit the places where elephants cause damage, but no such team has visited the site at Teteliaguri till the time of filing this report.
