SILCHAR, May 17 - The 10th Jugasankha Cup prize money Under-16 inter school football tournament will kick off on Wednesday at the SM Dev stadium. A total of 10 teams are taking part in the competition with the finals scheduled to be played on June 2.
Elaborating on the fixture, Nilotpal Choudhury, executive director of the newspaper house told media persons that the tournament started in 2005 with an aim to spot football talents from rural areas of Barak Valley. �Over the years we have been trying to bring out football talents from across Barak Valley. However, with time, the tournament was made Cachar district specific. On two occasions we could not host the tournament in 2011 and 2015. We expect the teams will put up a good show this year and we shall be able to pick up fresh talents, besides being entertained by some exciting football,� Choudhury said. He added to inform that the winners will get cash awards along with trophies. There will be other exciting prizes as well.
Babul Hore, secretary, Silchar DSA said that the newspaper house has made significant contributions towards raising the standard of sports in the region and tournament like this will boost the competitive spirit of the players and the schools as well. �The opening match will be played between SC Deb Vidyapith and Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya at the SM Dev stadium while the rest of the matches will be played at the Silchar Sporting ground,� Hore said.
