Judicial custody of 14 arrested extended

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Fourteen officers accused in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam were today produced before the court of special judge following the expiry of their fourteen-day judicial custody.

The court extended their judicial custody by another fourteen days.

Meanwhile, the bail petition filed by another tainted officer Rajarshi Sen Deka came up for hearing before the special court today. In view of the strong opposition placed by special public prosecutor Bijon Kumar Mahajan, the court rejected the bail plea.

On the other hand, Rumi Saikia, another accused officer, was today sent to judicial custody by the court on completion of her fourteen-day police custody.

Two accused officers APS officer Rakesh Gupta and ACS officer Nisha Moni Deka are still untraced.

Police said Gupta has reportedly fled the State, while Deka is hiding somewhere in the State. We are looking for them. We hope to nab them soon, police said.
